The Lowinsky and Pam family intermarried. TL Lowinsky my Great x 2 Grandfather became a Catholic on his marriage to Deborah O'Regan. Their daughter Marie Lowinsky married Emile Hecht. The couple had 5 children including Dorethy Hecht who married my grandfather Hugo Pam.
In his younger days T.L Lowinsky was an ardent fighter for Hungarian independence. He fought alongside Lajos Kossuth in the Revolution of 1848 and was forced to flee. He travelled to the USA and then to Ireland where he married Deborah O'Regan and changed his sirname from, perhaps the overly Jewish sounding Loewe [a derivative of Levy] to Lowinsky. The family account was that the boat his called into an Irish port to take on coal. It was then that he met Deborah O'Regan. The date of their marriage is not recorded. Deborah was the daughter of an Irish farmer but we have no further details.
The 1871 census states that he was living in London and his family were sharing a house with Jacob Pam, a Diamond Merchant. This is the first record of a connection between the Lowinsky and Pam family.
He died aged 76 in Hastings in Sussex, UK.
Deborah was born in Ireland. Her mother appears in the UK 1871 census as a 'Farmers Wife'. She was visiting her daughter at the time. Her sister Ellen appears in the 1861 Census. The family account of her meeting with a Thomas was that he was travelling to to the USA and as was the custom in the days of steam called into Cork to take on coal prior to the transatlantic crossing. It was then that he met Deborah.
It is suggested that the Pam families Roman Catholic faith dates from their marriage.
There is some confusion as to whether her sirname was O'Regan or Regan.
