Mathild Pam was always known within the family as' Aunty Tid'. She was never married although as a younger women it is said that she came close to marriage on more than one occassion. She lived most of her life in Kimpton, a small village in Hertfordshire. She was very actively involved in local charitable concerns.
As an old lady she used to take a holiday at The Beach Hotel the premier hotel on the sea front at Worthing in West Sussex. My father used to take us to see her. We didn't look forward to these events. We used to have a brief audiance with her and then were sent off to the basement of the hotel to play quietly till my father came to collect us. The Beech Hotel was seemed old fashioned, full of elderly guests where children were expected to be 'seen but not heard.'
Aunt Tid in the pony and trap is with my grandmother Dorethy Pam nee Hecht and her eldest son Vincent.
My father used to tell the story of visiting her in Kimpton when he was a child. Tid's cottage was on Pam Lane, named after her. The car had to be reversed up the lane as there was nowhere for the car to be turned round. The process was referred to as 'backing up Tid's passage'!!!!
