Note on Husband: Josef PAM

Josef was born in 1836 in Opatov in the Czech Republic.

He moved to Gablonz on the river Neisse in Northern Bohemia. In 1864 he married Therese Lustig. In partnership with his brother- in- law, Simon Lustig he set up a costume jewellery business. This was a successful venture. Costume, or fake jewellery, worn all over the world, was produced in Gablonz. They exported their jewellery and small items of art to many foreign countries. One example was the export of scarabs to be sold to tourists in Egypt.

Josef and Therese had three daughters: Berta, Friederike and Emma.

Josef died in Gablonz in 1902. He was a popular and well respected citizen of that town.

This information was provided by Josef’s great granddaughter Eva Smirzitz who died in 2015 in Vienna. Eva's grandchildren are the only descendants I am aware of.
