Note on Husband: Richard FRISWELL (1)

Note on Husband: Richard FRISWELL (2)

Richard Friswell is my Great (x4) Grandfather on my maternal grandfather’s side of the family.

He lived in London and worked as a Tallow Chandler in New Bond Street.

Richard and Mary Field had seven children although only thee survived beyond infancy. Four children died between 1784 and 1785 which suggests that they may have died as a result of an infection sweeping London at the time.

One of his children was William Friswell my Great (x3) Grandfather. He was a solicitor in London. He had five children one of whom was William Pearce Friswell who was my Great (x2) Grandfather.

One of his children was Georgina Friswell, my Great Grandmother who married a Charles Maslen. His youngest child was Thomas Maslen my Grand Father.

Note on Wife: Mary FIELD

Mary Fields origins are unclear. Family hearsay suggests the more illustrious name of Mary Field-Gaunt with the whispered connection with John of Gaunt, the Duke of Lancaster and 3rd son of Edward III. However, despite a great deal of research, there is no evidence of any royal connection.

Mary lived a long life and died aged 90. Family anecdotal history states that she was known as the 'little old lady of Wimpole Street'.

A death notice in the London Times on Saturday 6th May 1848 reads: " FRISWELL the 4th inst in Wimpole St at a very advanced age - Mary - Relict of the late RICHARD FRISWELL Esq.

She was buried in the Catacombs at Highgate Cemetery on the 10th May 1848.
